Vineyards Sonoma Coast & Napa Valley

Salty is rooted in the secluded and rugged westerly edge of the Sonoma Coast, where our vineyards sit high on a coastal ridge north of Jenner, staring straight into the Pacific. Where the ocean’s cool breath, rolling morning fog, and raw elements push the limits of what’s possible, shaping wines with energy, depth, and unmistakable coastal soul.

Our vision started in Fort Ross-Seaview, but the journey has also taken us to the mountains of Howell Mountain, where we farm a vineyard in one of Napa Valley’s most renowned high-elevation regions. From the ridgelines of the coast to the volcanic slopes of Howell Mountain, we embrace extreme landscapes that demand patience, respect, and a deep connection to the land. Out here, nature sets the pace, and we go with it, guiding the fruit from vine to bottle with care and intention. This is more than winemaking—it’s about embracing the wild, and bottling a piece of these untamed landscapes with every vintage.

Pinot Noir

Fort Ross-Seaview Sonoma County

The rugged Sonoma coast meets the ocean—a place where vineyards perch on high coastal ridges, riding above the fog and soaking up the cool kiss of the Pacific. Located between Jenner and Sea Ranch, this AVA spans elevations from 650 to 1,800 feet. Named in honor of the historic Fort Ross and scenic Seaview Road, the land carries centuries of viticulture spirit.

Down on these slopes, steep ridges, narrow valleys, and dense redwood forests blend with a mosaic of soils—from sedimentary rock to sandstone and shale—carved by the San Andreas Fault. Farming here isn’t for the faint of heart—it demands deep respect for the land and a passion for riding nature’s ever-changing rhythm. In every bottle, you taste a piece of this wild, soulful landscape, where history, nature, and the spirit of the surf collide.

Occidental Sonoma County

We choose to work with the Occidental growing region because it’s one of the most compelling and untamed corners of California wine country. Occidental is located in the westernmost part of Sonoma County, where the coastal influence plays a significant role in shaping its wines.

Defined by cool temperatures, coastal fog, and strong ocean breezes. This extended growing season allows grapes to ripen slowly while retaining acidity, layered flavors, and excellent structure. The region’s sandstone, Goldridge fine sandy loam, and marine-derived soils provide exceptional drainage, while vineyards, perched between 400 to 1,200 feet in elevation, benefit from warm midday sun and cool nights.

Howell Mountain Napa Valley

Howell Mountain stands apart as one of Napa Valley’s most distinct and powerful growing regions, defined by its elevation, volcanic soils, and intense sunshine.

Unlike other mountain AVAs that slope down into the valley, Howell Mountain rises above it all, with its boundary starting at 1,200 feet—just above the fog line. This unique position creates a climate with more hours of sun, minimal marine influence, and cooler nights, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity. Farming these conditions demand patience and precision.
